Read our guide to natural and low waste shampoo bars to help you make the switch from plastic. Get a glimpse into the transition phase often associated with shampoo bars.
The transition phase is a result of shampoo bars having a different PH level to your hair and scalp. Although it may take a few washes to transition in terms of getting used to the switch from a liquid shampoo to a shampoo bar it should not take long. If after several washes you’re still experiencing a chalkiness, the shampoo bar you’re using just isn’t right for you. Picture a perfume, you tend to test plenty of different scents before finding the one.
Our range is tried and tested ensuring you can have more confidence a product will work for you, first time around. Make sure to check out our guide by hair type at the end of this article to help you decide.
Why Natural Shampoo?
Well, the biggest benefit is that there are no artificial chemicals – regular shampoos typically contain three main chemicals, namely, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) and parabens. While the former two are foaming agents, parabens are preservatives, but equally all three are known to cause skin irritation and/or allergic reactions. Natural ingredients don’t pose this risk plus have been proven to improve skin and hair health by gently nurturing your hair follicles and skin cells with the minerals, herbal extracts and oils they contain.
In addition, chemicals used in regular shampoos cause harm to the environment. As our water waste drains away, it is diverted to treatment plants but harmful chemicals can end up in rivers and the ocean nonetheless costing particularly microorganisms at the bottom of the food chain. That is why biodegradable ingredients (meaning they decompose without causing pollution) as used in natural shampoos are that much more important.
Why Solid Shampoo Bars?
First of all, and one of the primary reasons why Parapura was born, shampoo bars are a great way to reduce plastic waste! Switching to this compact alternative will massively reduce the amount of plastic you use over time. But how is this possible, you ask?
Well, did you know that liquid shampoos are up to 80% water? That means a huge amount of space is given to the very ingredient you can add in abundance yourself! On the other hand, bars are highly concentrated containing 100% ingredients that benefit you and make a fraction of the size, last that much longer. This is also a huge factor as to why shampoo bars are typically more expensive… you’re finally getting your moneys worth, hooray!
